Ghana: Dede to Join Lorient Today

12 August 2008

Ghana striker Andre Dede Ayew will join French club Lorient on loan from rivals Marseille today.

The 18-year-old will sign a one-year contract with Lorient if he passes a medical later on Tuesday.

Marseille confirmed that the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele will be released for one season.

"We have found an agreement for Andre Ayew to join Lorient for one season," Marseille said in statement.

Ayew will return to Marseille at the end of the season as they have given no option to extend the deal.

The youngster would have found first team opportunities limited this season because of the arrival of two more strikers in the off-season.

Ivorian Bakari Kone has added more bite to the attacking force of the club while Eliot Grandin has returned after impressing on loan at Caen last season.

Regular first team players Mamadou Niang and Djibril Cissé are still at the club despite being linked with moves to England.

Ayew is keen on the offer because he wants to be part of regular first team action.
