The ongoing Voters registration exercise took another dramatic turn last weekend at Bonyere junction, near Tikobo number one, in the Jomoro constituency of the Western region after an 18-year-old girl, Comfort Akua Amoabeng was denied the right to register by an NPP agent.

The Chronicle learnt that though Akua Amoabeng went home to fetch her birth certificate to prove that she was 18 years old, the NPP agent, identified only as Abu, would still not budge. In the ensuing argument Abu was said to have assaulted the young lady who subsequently went and reported the matter to the Tikobo police.

An attempt to arrest Abu was allegedly resisted by top NPP officials who whisked the accused away. The failure by the police to arrest the suspect infuriated the relatives of Miss Amoabeng, who also stormed the registration centre to cause confusion. The Commotion that followed forced the EC officials to halt the registration exercise.

Before the prevailing peace could finally settle in the Bonyere community, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Jomoro, Martin Ackah brought in Military personnel who were armed to the teeth. Chronicle gathered that the Military were later withdrawn following the intervention of the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Lee Ocran.

Martin Ackah would not answer the numerous calls that were put through to his cellular phone to seek clarification on the matter. Lee Ocran, however, confirmed the story when he was contacted. According to him, NPP is desperate because they know that they are going to lose the election. 'Mark my words, this people are now very unpopular, but in their desperate attempt to be in power, look at what they are doing, but that will not save them, because we will win the elections," he asserted.
