A contractor, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar, who had earlier claimed that he was being owed N10 million by the Niger State government, has admitted before the state judicial commission of inquiry that he made the claim in error.

Abubakar, who was testifying before the justice Makaki commission of inquiry probing the awards of contracts by the previous administration in the state, admitted before the commission that he was not being owed the said amount by the state government.

He told the commission that out of the N14.9 million contract for the supply of television equipment for the state's television station, he was paid only N6.4 million leaving a balance of N8.5 million that was why he could not supply the remaining equipment.

The contractor claimed that what he supplied were receipted by the store officer in the media corporation, adding that the training of operators of this equipment and their installation was not part of the contract agreement with the government.

Abubakar requested that the balance of the processing fee with the tenders Board and Tax should be deducted whenever he was to be paid the balance, noting that the officials of the ministry of finance told him verbally that they had made some deductions on Tax and VAT.

The Director General, Media Corporation, Alh. Hassan Kolos, told the commission that the equipment not supplied were no longer required as the media had gone beyond that level.

Kolos informed the commission that the payment to the contractor was without tax deductions and disclosed that the equipment that were supplied were with the corporation's store keeper.
