The Tanzania national cricket team will tomorrow leave for the United Kingdom for a two-week training tour.
The tour will prepare the team for this year's edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket league for division four teams.
The event- a qualifier stage for the 2011 World cup championship to be jointly hosted by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka- will take place in Dar es Salaam in October. It will feature teams from Afghanistan, New Jersey, Hong Kong, Fiji and Italy.
Tanzania Cricket Association chairman and team head coach Zulfikar Rhemtula said yesterday all was set for the UK tour that is highly expected to benefit the local side. "We have secured UK entry visas for all players and officials.
We thank the British High Commission for the cooperation," he said.
Players leaving for the trip are: skipper Hamis Abdallah, Issa Kikasi, Abikh Patwa, Bawesh Govind, Athumani Kakonzi, Kelvin Nasibu and Khalil Rwemtula.
Others are Kassim Nassoro, Riziki Kiseto, Abdukadir Dosaji, Rishen Patel, Benson Mwita and Rashid Amiri.
According to Rhemtula, the player selection criteria was based on commitment and discipline during training.
However, he said other good players were left out due to limited resources earmarked for the tour.
The team is expected to play eight matches against some of England's sides during the entourage.
The opening trial match is set for Sunday against Indian Gymkhana Club at Thornbury Avenue while the second will be against Birmingham Civil Service three days later.
Other matches will be against West Harrow CC (August 21), Watford Cricket Club (August 24), Amersham Cricket Club (August 27) and Rajput Cricket Association (August 28).
