The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) has planned a special championship in October to outdoor a new state-of-the-art boxing ring.

The ring, valued at 5,000 Sterling was donated by the Haringey Police Boxing Club, a United Kingdom-based amateur boxing club last February.

Gideon Quartey, Acting Chairman of GAAAB told GNA Sports that preparation for the event has reached an advanced level.

He said that the event will be graced by two officials of the Haringey Boxing Club, who will officially hand over the facility to the Association.

Mr. Quartey was full of praise for the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), National Sports Council (NSC) and Aviance Ghana Limited for the support towards the clearing of the ring at the port.

The GOC and NSC contributed 2,500 Ghana Cedis and 1,400 Ghana Cedis respectively while Aviance waived off 50 percent of the storage cost before the ring which arrived in the country last February was released to the GAABA.

Meanwhile, Prince Parry of Bukom Gym emerged as a revelation at the Week 16 of the GAABA League which came off last Friday at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonment.

Parry, despite a majority loss to Regional Team Captain, Benjamin Lamptey of Will Power Gym in a Light welterweight clash gave the former one of his toughest outings in the championship by matching him squarely in all aspects.

His combination of left and right punches earned him the plaudit of the fans while Lamptey's hard-hitting punches worked in his favour.
