Ajax Cape Town, depleted by the departure of strikers Thembinkosi Fanteni, Nathan Paulse and Russel Mwafulirwa to European clubs during the break, have signed Ghanaian striker Joseph Masel.
According to the Urban Warriors' website, Joseph has agreed to a three-year deal following his move from Ghanaian outfit Seven United F.C.
"Joseph was on trial at Ikamva for the last month and he has acquitted himself well," says head coach Craig Rosslee.
In a recent training game against the visiting FA Cup Champions Portsmouth, he gave a good account of himself prompting the Ajax coach to say, "Joseph has proved that he can play at the highest level. Against Portsmouth he gave Campbell and Diarra a tough time.
"If he can do the job against these two quality footballers then surely he can do the job for us in the ABSA Premiership.
"We lost our entire strike-force of Fanteni, Paulse and Mwafulirwa during the break and Masel's signing will offset their departure.
"We aim to contend for honours in the ABSA Premiership, local Cup competitions and the African Champions League therefore we need quality cover for all the positions to ensure a measure of success this year," concluded Rosslee.
Masel joins an Ajax strike-force of Mabhuti Khenyeza, Dipsy Selolwane, Sifiso Vilakazi, Andile Mbenyane and Danian Wareley, ensuring that competition for places will give the Urban Warriors the added edge up-front.
