Ho — The Founder of the Volta Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Mr. Raymond Okudzeto, has donated GH¢10,000 to the youth of Anlo, to support them in their business activities, as well as those who have no jobs, to get a capital to grow their own businesses.
Mr. Okudzeto, who made the presentation, with the support of his wife, at a ceremony at Anloga, noted that there were large numbers of the youth who were without jobs, and that the money was a micro-credit facility that would make the youth access money, to boost their self-initiated business activities.
He said the micro-credit facility, which would not attract any interest, would be invested in areas such as farming, fishing, carpentry, and other business activities, noting that most of the youth have no collateral to enable them secure financial assistance from the banks, hence the institution of the GH¢10,000 credit facility.
Mr. Okudzeto observed that the as the population continued increasing, and the number of people without employable skills also continued to increase by the day, what was reasonable for those who were well to do, was to give the necessary support to the less-endowed in society, to enable them to live decently and comfortably.
He pointed out that it was sad that the unemployed youth were left to their fate, by those who could help them, particularly in the Volta Region, and made a passionate appeal to Voltarians, both at home and abroad, who could give the needed assistance to the youth, to see themselves as necessary instruments, that could bring about a positive change to the Volta Region.
"Voltarians, we have to develop our region, and change our behaviour of keeping things to our selves, and ignoring our neighbours, who might need our help for sustenance," he stressed.
Mr. Okudzeto pointed out that some Voltarians had become selfish and self-conceited, and were not interested in what happened to their neighbours, and again appealed to Voltarians, particularly the Anlos, "who the good Lord has blessed, and continues to bless with wealth, to turn their attention to their place of birth, and give a little support to the needy."
The Bank Manager of the Anlo Rural Bank, who received the money on behalf of the youth, Mr. Godwin Ahiadzi, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Okudzeto for the gesture, and promised that the money would strictly be put to good use, to help transform the lives of the youth in the Anlo area.
The Bank Manger, however, made it clear to the gathering, that the credit facility would be administered to meet national standards, and announced that any amount accessed by an individual or group of people, would attract an interest to ensure that the facility grow to an appreciable level.
Mr. Ahiadzi used the opportunity to urge the people of Anlo, to make good use of the rural bank, so as to strengthen it to promote socio economic activities in the area, adding that those who failed to pay their loans should pay on time, to pave way for others also to benefit from the facility.
