Tanzania: TCA Upbeat About Team's UK Training Tour

The Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) is optimistic that the national team's training tour of the United Kingdom will boost the team's preparations for the 2010 World Cup. The team leaves today for the two-week trip. TCA chairman Zulfikar Rhemtullah said yesterday the local side will play against some of the best teams in the UK.

"They (the players) will gain more confidence and exposure," he said. "We hope this experience will build them into a stronger outfit that qualifies for the 2010 World Cup."

The tour will prepare the team for this year's edition of the International Cricket Council ( ICC) World Cricket league for division four teams to be played in Dar es Salaam from October 4 to 11. Teams from Afghanistan, New Jerseys, Hong Kong, Fiji and Italy are expected to feature in the event.

The next edition of the World Cup will be jointly hosted by India, Pakistan and Srilanka, bringing together more than 200 ICC affiliate member countries.

According to TCA, the team will play eight matches. The first one will be on Sunday against the Indian Gymkhana Club at the Thornbury Avenue. The second will be three days later against Birmingham Civil Service.

Other matches will pit the local side against West Harrow CC (August 21), Watford Cricket Club (August 24), Amersham Cricket Club (August 27) and Rajput Cricket Association (August 28).

Players who were selected for the trip are: skipper Hamis Abdallah, Issa Kikasi, Abikh Patwa, Bawesh Govind,Athumani Kakonzi and Kelvin Nasibu. Others are Khalil Rwemtula, Kassim Nassoro, Riziki Kiseto, Abdukadir Dosaji, Rishen Patel, Benson Mwita and Rashid Amiri.
