Eritrea: President Receives Delegation From Lesotho

Asmara — President Isaias Afwerki yesterday received and held talks with a delegation from the Kingdom of Lesotho headed by Mr. Lincoln Ralechate Mokose, Minister of Forestry and Land Reclamation.

In the meeting, the President said that the delegation may have acquired experience and noted the significance of mutual exchange of experience. He further stressed the need for African countries to work together on the basis of coordinating their potentials.

Members of the delegation expressed admiration to Eritrea's development endeavors on the basis of self-reliance and that they have drawn good lesson from Eritrea's experience in water conservation activities.

During its stay, the delegation would conduct visits to the Central, Gash-Barka and Southern regions to observe agricultural development programs.

Following briefings it received in the Ministry of Agriculture regarding Eritrea agricultural development strategy, the delegation visited the flower projects in Mai-Sirwa and the Dirfo area accompanied by Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture.

In the course of a visit in Gash-Barka region from August 11 to 12, the delegation observed a number of agricultural development projects and sites, including Gerset and Fanko dams, as well as water diversion schemes in Aligidir and Berhatera. Similarly, during a visit to the Southern region, the delegation made a tour of Adebzage, Kaqbda, Warsay and Dirko micro-dams.

The delegation lauded Eritrea's achievements in soil and water conservation, especially in efforts to attain food security. It also stated that the Kingdom of Lesotho would avail itself of this worthwhile experience.

Lesotho with a population of over 2 million is located in Southern Africa, and its people earn their livelihood from agriculture and pastoralism.
