Angola: Guilherme Mampwia and Ana Suzana 'Kiana' Win Ensarte 2008 Prize

Luanda — Angolan plastic artists Guilherme Mampwia and Ana Suzan "Kiana" won the ninth edition of Ensarte prize in the categories of painting and sculpture, respectively.

This was announced Monday in Luanda by the Angolan National Insurance Company (ENSA), which promoted the event.

Guilherme Mampwia was awarded the painting prize for the work "Carreguemos a cultura", while the second prize was given to Pedro Dala, for the work "Eu, Tu e Outros Fazemos o N ã 's e o Progresso", and Miguel Gonçalves, for "Entropia da Paz I".

Meanwhile, the sculpture prize was awarded to Ana Suzana "Kiana" for the work "Angola em Movimento", whilst the second position was given to AntÃ'nio Toko, for the work " A Reflexão ".

With the work " “Hinosicrização em época de paz” ", Ant ã 'nio Camuto was awarded the prize in the painting category.

The youth of sculpture prize was awarded to Amândio Vemba Henriques for "M ã os Transformadoras", while special of painting for a province was awarded to Vitange, from central Bié province with the work "Depois da Tempestade".

The jury decided not to award any prize for the sculpture special for a province as the works presented were not up to the dimension of the contest.

Lema Yuma and Arsénio Cardoso, with the works "Passo ao Desenvolvimento" and "As Cordilheiras da paz", respectively, and painters André Manuel Malenga, with the work "Renascimento de Angola" had an honourable mention.

The event aims at recording and safeguarding the works of accredited artists and young creators who have been performing national aesthetic tendencies, particularly in the post-independence period.
