Kampala — A HANDFUL of local fashion designers teamed up to launch the Uganda International Fashion Week (UIFW) 2008 at Kampala Casino last Tuesday.
The grand event will be held in Kampala from November 28-29 and will run under the theme "Showcasing East Africa's Fashion Genius". About 30 designers will showcase their creations.
Five of them turned up for the event at the casino. They are Santa Anzo of the Arapapa Modelling Agency, Dorothy Lubega of the Lubega Dee Label, Paula Butagira, Gemma Kisaale and the Finnish jewellery designer, Terhi Lehtinen.
They showcased designs that will be presented at the grand event. The launch which attracted about 50 guests was crowned with a cocktail of drinks.
According to Anzo, the founder of UIFW, other eight local designers and 10 international fashion gurus from Dar-es-Salaam, Nairobi, Kigali, Bujumbura, South Sudan, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Europe and North America will showcase their designs.
