Kampala — The Government has recognised northern Uganda artiste Loketo Lee a.k.a Lee Aneka for his contribution towards the restoration of peace in the region through music.

Foreign Affairs state minister Henry Okello Oryem handed over a plaque to Aneka at his office in Kampala. Aneka was born in Kitgum district, which was also ravaged by the 22-year-old LRA war.

Okello, who is also the deputy head of the Government delegation to the Juba peace talks, said Aneka's songs touched many people's hearts including those of the LRA rebels. Aneka has sang songs like; and Salvar Kiir, which have so far earned him two awards.

The artiste received one award from the Government of Southern Sudan and another from the Pearl of Africa Music Awards. "I sang a song for Salvar Kiir because he gave the Ugandan Government and LRA rebels a mediation ground," Aneka stated.

Aneka said he chose to sing about peace to convince rebels and the Government to stop fighting, "because my brothers and sisters in the north have suffered a lot."
