The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has concluded arrangements to employ retiring Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers.
The Director General of NCAA, Dr Harold Demuren who disclosed this in Lagos on Thursday when he hosted the new Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, NAF, Air Vice Marshal Bala Danbaba said such Air Force personnel would be absorbed after fulfiling a newly designed training programme.
He said the programme, which will involve examination, is one of the measures fashioned out by the NCAA to cushion the shortage of skilled manpower confronting Nigeria 's aviation industry.
When operational, NAF would be required to forward the names of retiring officers to the authority six months ahead of their retirement for necessary action.
Dr. Demuren also stated that NCAA would send an accreditation team to the NAF Training Institute in Kaduna to look at areas of collaboration with regard to civil aviation personnel training at the college.
Thereafter, he spoke on wide range issues such as the status of Nigerian carriers, the plan to make the West Coast of Africa a domestic operation and the current American Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) audit of Nigeria for category I and pledged that the NCAA would make Nigeria proud.
Responding, AVM Danbaba, lauded the conversion of its personnel from military to civil aviation practitioners and noted that the idea would further restore sanity to the aviation airspace innovation through effective oversight and strict enforcement of compliance to safety regulations by NCAA.
"We in the Air Force are proud of NCAA and what you have been doing in areas of regulation, fleet renewal, increase in aviation activities, strict enforcement of safety standards," he said.
Thereafter, he pledged that the NAF would extend the same gesture and support to the authority wherever and whenever it is required.
