Asmara — President Omar Hassan Al-Beshir of Sudan lauded Eritrea's stance as regards promoting peace and stability in the Sudan. He made the statement after receiving a message from President Isaias Afwerki focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and regional issues, and during talks with the Eritrean Foreign Minister, Mr. Osman Saleh.
Expressing his country's desire and readiness to foster close relations with neighboring countries, President Omar Hassan Al-Beshir cited Eritrea's stance in the Sudanese issue as an example. The two sides also discussed Eritrea's role in resolving the problems of Sudan and Chad, as well as the ongoing efforts to reactivate the Tripoli Agreement.
In briefings he gave to media outlets following the meeting, Foreign Minister Osman Saleh indicated that President Isaias' message focuses on enhancing bilateral relations, regional issues and other topics of mutual concern to the two countries. He asserted that as the ploy to bring President Omar Hassan Al-Beshir to the International Criminal Court as 'war criminal' is designed to make international justice assume a political character and target the security and stability of the African continent, Eritrea totally rejects it.
Mr. Osman Saleh further pointed out that the Eritrean government would conduct meetings with the leaders of Sudan and Chad so as to normalize relations between the two countries.
Moreover, the Eritrean delegation held talks on similar issues with the Sudanese Presidential Advisor, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismael, Foreign Minister Deng Alor, and the Minister of State in the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, Mr. Asemani Al-Wesila, as well as other Sudanese officials.
