Kigali — Rwanda will not field a team at the forthcoming Africa Junior boys' Championships in Egypt after a failed attempt in the qualifiers that were staged in Uganda last week.

Kenya edged Rwanda on 67-56 points in the round-robin four-day tournament that had also attracted Sudan, Burundi and hosts Uganda.

After imperious start with wins over Uganda, Sudan and Burundi, the juniors crumbled when it mattered most.

After trouncing Rwanda, Kenya rounded up their unbeaten run with a 58-49 win over Uganda to qualify for the continental showpiece to be staged in Cairo, Egypt this October.

Despite failing to qualify, the team's manager Jean Lucien Mugabo commended the boys for putting up a spirited performance throughout the tournament.

"The boys tried but fell short. But the exposure and experience gained from the tournament will make them better players in the future," he noted.
