Ghana: Dede Makes Lorient Bow

18 August 2008

Andre Dede Ayew came off the bench to make his bow for Lorient at the start of his season long loan spell at the French League 1 side.

The 18-year-old left Marseille at the beginning of last week after accepting his chances of first team football were limited this season. But it took 61 minutes before he got his first taste of action this season, coming off the bench to replace Michael Ciani in their goalless draw game against Olympique Lyon at the Stade du Moustoir.

There could have been two Ghanaians on the field at that moment but John Mensah is still unfit to make his competitive Lyon debut after moving from Stade Rennes and was left out of the squad that travelled for the Lorient game entirely.

Asamoah Gyan has now played a combined 90 minutes from Stade Rennes in the French league following his move from Udinese in Italy.

Used as the main man upfront last week before being taken off at half time, the Black Stars marksman started Rennes 0-1 loss at Grenoble from the bench.

But with Rennes trailing 0-1 at half time Asamoah replaced Jires Ekoto at the start of the second half and should have equalised for them on 66 minutes but he missed his chance when through on goal.

The other Ghanaian in the French top flight Moussa Nary was an used substitute as his side Auxerre were thrashed 0-4 at the Velledrome by Olympic Marseille.

In Scotland, Laryea Kingston was also on the losing side as Hearts went down 0-2 at Rangers on day two of the Scottish premier league. It was not one of the Ghanaians best games as he was booked after only seventeen minutes before he was substituted by Csaba Laszlo after 65 minutes.

Prince Buabeng came off the bench after 64 minutes to help Dundee United claim a point off reigning champions Hearts at Tannadice Park.

The German bundesliga is up and running but unlike in previous seasons when it used to have a strong Ghanaian presence, there was not much in terms of Ghanaian interest on day one.

Hans Sarpei was not part of the Bayer Leverkusen squad that lost their opening game against Borussia Dortmund 2-3 at home. Isaac Vorsah was meanwhile an unused substitute in TSG Hoffeinheim's shock 3-0 win at Ernegie Cottbus on the opening day.

But in the Bundesliga II, Isaac Boakye who was forced to make the step down to Nurenburg after being declared surplus to requirement at Wolfsburg made a dream start, scoring the first goal on 22 minutes in their 2-1 win over Augsburg at home.

In Belgium, King Osei Gyan, called up for Ghana's friendly international against Tanzania on Wednesday played 83 minutes of Germinal Beerschot's 1-1 draw away to Germinal Genk.
