The Federal Government has said that the third National Fadama Development Project, which dwells upon scaling up sustainable land management (SLM) will be financed with $7 million Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, disclosed this in Abuja during a stakeholders' workshop on the inception report of the study to the review of policies and regulations in watershed management at the federal level.
Afolabi said that the SLM will be implemented in line with the Fadama III project, adding that the ministry is determined to pursue the issue of environmental concerns for agricultural development in the country.
According to him, "We will continue to tap on the resources made available through all external intervention in the sector to achieve this laudable objective."
He further explained that watershed management is an integrated direction to natural resources management aimed at sustaining the productivity of the natural resources base and securing livelihoods in the community.
Meanwhile, the ministry has reiterated its commitment towards the development of cassava-related products and the implementation of 5 per cent cassava flour to wheat flour products by the producers across the country.
