Angola: Programme Launches Schoolbooks for Free Supply

18 August 2008

Luanda — The interdisciplinary books of the collection "Para Gostar de Ler e Escrever" (To like Reading and Writing), created specifically for the Literacy and School Acceleration Programme (PAAE) of the Angolan Ministry of Education, will be launched this Monday in one of the hotels of Luanda City.

ANGOP has learnt that this material will be supplied for free.

The launching ceremony of the school materials of the Literacy and School Acceleration Programme (PAAE) will count on the presence of the Education minister, António Burity da Silva, the National director for General Education, Luísa Alves Grilo, and the official of PAAE implementation, as well as representatives of international institutions and non government organisations, leaders of big companies, consultants, public officials, teachers and technicians.

In 2007, about 400, 000 people were taught to read and in 2008 about 6,700 teachers will instruct about 6,7000 students through the Literacy and School Acceleration Programme. Most of the students are between the ages of 12 and 25.

The PAAE employs a series of modern and advanced methods and schoolbooks, besides print-outs, DVDs, video-classes, songs, workshops and training in the classroom.

According to director Luísa Grilo, the organisation of modules follows pedagogic advanced guidelines which are based on Angola's cultural and socio-economic scenarios and it reflects the country's administrative rules and laws.

ANGOP learnt that these books are organised in four complementary sections that correspond to fundamental aspects of the human growth, namely Identity, Work, Citizenship, Health and Quality of Life.
