Kigali — ROKO Construction Company Limited (RCL) last week signed a $15million contract to make an extension of Kigali Serena Hotel starting from September 1.

The 12 months contract was signed by the Serena Hotels managing director, Mr. Mahmud Jan Mohamed and ROKO Construction Limited managing director, Mr. Dragomir Lakic at Kigali Serena Hotel.

The extension of the five star hotel will see it equipped with an ultra modern new wing comprising a total of 44 guest rooms, 28 standard and 16 executive rooms and a two storey state of the art Maisha spa facility which will offer services as signature massage, facials and hydrotherapy body care.

This will see an increment in the hotel's rooms from 104 currently to 148 rooms hence offer a wider variety of health, wellness and beauty services to both local and international guests.

The refurbishment will also spread to Lake Kivu Serena Hotel in western Rwanda on shores of Lake Kivu.

"The refurbishments are geared towards availing superior services to the customers and at the same time play a pivotal role in the growth of Rwanda's economy," Serena Hotels Managing director, Mr. Mahmud Jan Mohamed said.

The hotel will remain open during the renovation period and measures will be improvised to ensure minimal interruptions to guests.

Serena Hotels took over Kigali Intercontinental Hotel and Kivu Sun Hotel in February 2007. The group has acquired land in Northern Rwanda on which it seeks to put up a Safari lodge and construction is deemed to start 2009.
