Ghana: Rajavac Confident of Success

18 August 2008

Milovan Rajavac is confident his time with Ghana's Black Stars will be a huge success given what he says is the country's massive pool of talent.

The Serbian, addressing his first press conference in Accra insisted however that he alone cannot bring success to the team.

"If players do what I expect and say, I am sure we will not just be a part of South Africa 2010 but we will also do something significant," he said through an interpreter.

The talent in this country and the passion for football is one of the reasons I could not turn this down

Rajevac has signed a two-year contract with the Ghana Football Association with a brief to take Ghana to the 2010 World Cup. It is a challenge he relishes and one that he says will be a major step in his career.

"I want this to be another big step in my career. For me success with the Black Stars will mean success in Angola and success in qualifying for South Africa 2010 and doing well there."

"If we work together as a team with positive energy, then we will be there in 2010," he continued. "I will lead from the front of course but a lot will depend on how we all work together."

The Serbian took the grilling from the media with maturity but there were moments too when he showed a tough streak insisting at one point that the questions were becoming too repetitive.

He also revealed he had in the past turned down three approaches from other African teams but decided to come to Ghana because of the potential for success.

"I am very happy and proud to be to be in a country where football is so popular. The talent in this country and the passion for football is one of the reasons I could not turn this down."

The Serbian also says he has already begun work and has spent six hours studying Ghana's last game in the build up to the world cup qualifier on September 5th 2008 with his assistant Kwesi Appiah.
