Lagos — The Federal Government has restated its commitment to punish petrol dealers who engage in sharp practices at the detriment of the public.
Mr. Paul Itula, the South-South Coordinator of the Weights and Measures Division of the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industries, said the issue of sharp practice among petrol dealers was increasing.
Itula told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that three petrol stations in the Rivers capital had been sealed for contravening the Weights and Measures Act.
He listed the sealed stations as Onuka Petrol Station, Rhoday Petroleum Service Station and Lumco Petroleum Station, all located on the Iwofe/COE road in Port Harcourt.
Itula said officers of the ministry, during a routine monitoring exercise, discovered that the stations did not have current certificates of verification.
He also said the stations adjusted their dispensing pumps in a way that less quantities of products were delivered to the innocent buyers.
"The Federal Government is so concerned about this issue; this exercise is a continuous one, it is the intention of the Federal Government to ensure that sanity is in place.
"Anybody caught shortchanging the public will not be spare by the ministry. They must be brought to book because it is criminal and against the law," he said.
Itula called on the public to report petrol dealers found not complying with the Weights and Measures Act for necessary action.
