Harare — A LIBYAN envoy from the Revolutionary Committees Movement is in the country to strengthen ties with the Zanu-PF Youth League following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two seven years ago.
Mr Hafiz Mersal yesterday pledged to develop stronger ties between RCM and Zanu-PF while the ruling party appreciated the support it has received from the movement.
"We are here representing RCM and meeting our comrades and fellow brothers in the youth league.
"Today we are here to strengthen relations with Zimbabweans.
"We have good relations, our discussions have been fruitful and we exchanged ideas," said Mr Mersal.
Since the signing of the MoU, 55 youths have visited Libya and received training in various fields.
Zanu-PF national secretary for education and Central Committee member Cde Kizito Kuchekwa said the youth league was grateful for the support it has received from the RCM that includes scholarships.
"We are most grateful to the RCM. We want to strengthen our friendship with them and we cherish the discussions we have had with them that will see us joining hands and coming up with exchange programmes," he said.
Cde Kuchekwa thanked the RCM for standing by Zanu-PF in trying times.
He said the RCM has supported the country's land reform programme that benefited thousands of Zimbabweans and went further to press for the removal of the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West led by Britain and the United States.
Mr Mersal met ruling party youths that included students from the University of Zimbabwe.
