Angola: Turkey Willing to Sign Co-Operation Accords With Country

19 August 2008

Luanda, — Turkey Monday in Istambul expressed interest to sign with Angola a co-operation agreement in the economic, commercial and technological domains, so that it can participate, more directly, in the country's development process.

The intention was manifested during the Turkey/Africa co-operation summit, which was opened Monday in Istanbul, as stated on a note received by ANGOP.

The general principles of the co-operation are outlined on a document that is to be signed by the Angolan deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Irene Neto, and by a member of the Turkish government.

The Turkey/Africa Summit is gathering African Heads of State and Government, African Union officials, and the Turkish President.

Turkey has been chosen as a partner for Africa to study ways of establishing strategic partnerships for the continent, as adopted in the 12th session of the executive council of the African Union, held in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), in January 2008.

Turkey has also declared 2008 as Africa's Year, and, in this ambit, it is committed to boosting bilateral co-operation with African states.

To remind that Africa has held similar strategic summits with Japan, known as TIKAD IV, China and India.

The Angolan delegation to the Turkey/Africa Summit is headed by the Finance minister, José Pedro de Morais, and also comprises the deputy ministers of Foreign Affairs, Irene Neto, Commerce, Cruz Neto, Hotels and Tourism, Paulino Baptista, and diplomats, among other senior staff of the Angolan Finance Ministry.
