Angola: Development Bank Funds Conservation of Farm Goods

Luanda — Angola's Development Bank (BDA) lent about Usd 10.7 million to the company Sodemat in August this year, to install a tomato concentrate plant in the district of

Matala, southern Huila province.

Speaking to journalists, the chairman of Sodemat, Luís Salvaterra, said the plant that will be inaugurated on November 11 this year, has a production line with a capacity to process six tonnes of tomato per hour, yielding one tonne of tomato concentrate per hour.

He said as well the plant will process about 12,500 tonnes of fresh tomato, which will yield a final production of 2,200 tonnes of tomato concentrate.

The plant will provide at least 40 new jobs and stimulate the production of tomato by small and large scale farmers, producing an increment of the families revenues.

It will first work on assistance from Spain that will secure its full functioning and provide personnel training.

According to the source, BDA has also lent to Sodemat another Usd 3.1 million that is since early this year being used in the construction of two cold storage rooms for conservation of potato.

Altogether, the two cold rooms will have a capacity to store 1,800 tonnes of farm goods.

In Matala, BDA financed the "1º de Maio" Cooperative whose chairman confirmed having received Akz 67 million from the above mentioned bank.

In Huila province, BDA also provided finds to dealers in the districts of Chicomba and Quipungo.
