Uganda's Olympic challenge is beginning today. Moses Kipsiro in 5000m and Abraham Chepkirwok (800m) are the real deal. The two boys carry all the hopes for a medal as we approach the final bend of the Olympics.
It won't be gold of course, but one of them should be able to save the fading image of the Pearl of Africa. Boniface Kiprop and Benjamin Kiplagat started their races well but lost steam when it mattered most.
I least expect Kipsiro and Chepkirwok to follow suit. They have the experience and necessary energy. But if they get excited like their ousted counterparts and decide to do the front running then Uganda is doomed.
Be it in 800m or 5000m, there are very few runners that can lead from start to finish. Not even Kenenisa Bekele, the man who will most likely walk away with gold in the 12-and-a half lap race.
