Hamelmalo — The inhabitants of five administrative areas in Hamelmalo sub-zone carried out development activities focusing on achieving food security through soil and water conservation.

The Administrator of the sub-zone, Ms. Haregu Woldegergish, indicated that so far over 9,000 cubic meters of embankments have been constructed and about 270 km-long terracing put in place, in addition to the construction of a micro-dam.

She also said that a new well has been dug in Gizgiza administrative area which is making due contribution in providing potable water supply to the inhabitants. Reports indicated that more than 42,000 people took active participation in the popular campaign.
