There seems to be an atmosphere of uneasy calm at Adugyama, in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region, following a physical confrontation between the chief, and two assembly members of the community.
The Chief, Nana Boakye Yiadom Kotoko I, was reported to have engaged the services of some macho men from Kumasi, to deal with the two assembly members of the area, Messrs. Musah Yusif, aka Donkor and Akwasi Boadu, after the assembly members had challenged him on the use of monies collected from chainsaw and timber operators, meant for the community.
The assembly members were reported to have consistently requested for accountability from the chief, on the use of monies obtained as proceeds from the timber operators, which was in the possession of the chief.
The Chronicle has gathered that the chief, who resides at Asokwa in Kumasi, has erected a barrier on the outskirts of the town, and instructed one Abdullah, popularly known as "Container," to collect GH¢12 from all vehicles loaded with lumber and logs, to be used for the development of the community.
However, instead of making the money available to the town development committee, to embark on projects which would be beneficial to the community, Nana Boakye Yiadom was alleged to have expended the money on his personal projects, and has since refused to render accounts to the community, after several demands by the assembly members, a situation which has triggered the anger of residents in the community.
The chief, not being able to withstand the pressure mounted upon him by the assembly members, called a meeting at his house around 9 p.m. on Tuesday August 12, this year, and invited the unit committee members and the two assembly members.
Feeling suspicious about the intents of the chief, and the odd hour at which the meeting was scheduled to take place, the unit committee members and one of the assembly members, Akwasi Boadu, declined to attend the meeting, but his colleague, Yusif Abdullah, unknowingly decided to honour the invitation, only to be confronted and physically assaulted in front of the chief's house, by four local boys, namely Charles, Kwame Poku, Nkonno and Wozo, who warned him to stop bothering the chief with accountability, if he loved his dear life.
The four boys reportedly proceeded further to the house of Akwasi Boadu, where they vandalized properties belonging to him. Akwasi Boadu, however, escaped unhurt.
Following the incident, the chief and the two assembly members, have lodged separate complaints with the Mankranso District Police Command.
The chief is accusing the two local assembly members of verbal assault, while the assembly members charged their attackers for physical assault, and damage to properties.
Meanwhile, the four boys who attacked the assembly members have been granted bail, after detention by the Mankranso Police, pending investigations into the matter.
Nana Boakye Yiadom, however, failed to comment on the matter when contacted by the paper.
