Nairobi — Four months after President Kibaki authorised the formation of a board to brand and market the country abroad, it is yet to be constituted.
Despite the numerous Government delegations that have been flying out to market the country, it had been envisaged that the Brand Kenya Board, formed as a state corporation in March, would create and communicate a strong and cohesive image for Kenya.
However, 155 days later, Information and Communication minister Samuel Poghisio is yet to name the 15-member board.
"We are going to do it soon and we are already looking at various names that have been forwarded by the relevant bodies," said Information and Communication PS Bitange Ndemo when asked why it had taken that long.
Power play politics in the Grand Coalition have been blamed for the delay.
Among the pioneer group of marketers that are being considered are Rose Kimotho, the managing director of Regional Reach Ltd which owns Kameme FM and television news channel, K24.
Others are: ICT board chief executive, Paul Kukubo, East African Breweries marketing director Patricia Ithau, Tom Sitati of Interbrand Sampson and Jane Delorie, the MD Research Solutions Limited.
Others are: Econet marketing director, Anna Othoro, Sameer Africa marketing manager Jeremiah Siage and the Kenyatta International Conference Centre general manager and current Marketing society of Kenya chair, Fred Simiyu.
