Sokoto — Sokoto State Government has spent a total of N36 million to connect all its 10 science and technical colleges to the Internet, for effective teaching and learning.
Commissioner for Science and Technical Education, Alhaji Nasiru Aliyu, made this known during the distribution of assorted kitchen utensils worth N5.7 million to these schools.He said a VSAT connection to link the schools has also been installed as part of the project.
With the development he said, the colleges would be able to access current literature on science, technology and other related fields. Aliyu said the state government has bought assorted science equipment worth N39.98 million, which would be distributed to all its schools while computer education would be introduced in the colleges to ensure that the state no longer lags behind in that area.
The Commisioner said the state had spent over N48.29 million to purchase textbooks for all the 10 schools and would soon procure beds worth over N47 million. "The contract for the purchase of these beds has since been awarded and they will soon be supplied for distribution to the colleges", he said.
Aliyu added that N12.5 million was spent on the upgrading of science laboratories and that furnishing was executed at the Government Girls' Commercial College, Tambuwal, while N33 million worth of contract was awarded for the renovation of the perimeter fencing of the same school.
