Liberia: Ul Family Mourns Student's Death

The University of Liberia says it has learnt with deep sadness the alleged brutal murder by some armed robbers over the weekend of a student of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.

Student Stafford Tamba, was reportedly murdered when some armed men entered his Barnesville residence and began firing sporadically, during which time, he was tragically slaughtered in the process.

The University of Liberia reacting to the unfortunate incident expressed deep sadness over the situation and said it is very concerned about the untimely demise of one of its promising students.

In a statement released last evening under the signature of the President of the University, Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, the UL administration said while the matter is being properly and speedily investigated by the police, the university through the office of the Dean of the School of Law, is also collecting relevant facts concerning what the administration described as, "atrocious event."

The UL administration said, as traumatic episodes affecting members of the university community, anxieties, emotions and trepidations tend to heighten, within the mindset of all UL students, especially those registered in the school of law the University of Liberia administration has cautioned all UL students to go about their normal businesses and remain calm, while the proper authorities probe the event.

The administration urged all law school students and other members of the UL community close to the deceased, who need support to make appointments with the Dean of Student Affairs to arrange special helping sessions on a group or individual basis. The UL family has also used the occasion to extend heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family over the loss of life.

In a related development, the second year class of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law has announced with profound regrets the untimely demise of student Stafford Tamba.

The law students said the incident occurred last Saturday at 5:00a.m. at the Barnesville residence of the deceased at the hands of some barbaric, gruesome and demonic perpetrators for their own selfish motives.

The law students said funeral arrangement over the remains of the deceased would be announced later. Also, the student body of the school yesterday evening held a well-attended meeting during which time they expressed shock over their colleague's death. They have set up two committees for fact-finding and the other to liaise with the family.

Meanwhile, many Liberians who spoke with our reporter have also expressed their deepest sorrow about the tragic death of such a prominent Liberian. They wondered as to how long peaceful Liberians would be subjected to such a terrible situation in Liberia as armed robbers triumph in the country at night.
