Kenema — Police in Kenema have conducted spontaneous raids at various locations arresting 10 suspects in possession of large quantity of cannabis sativa or marijuana including some white powder substance suspected to be cocaine.
Operations officer in Kenema, assistant superintendent of police Morie Kamara said the prohibited drugs were discovered at 33 Blama Road in the house of one Isata Kamara.
He said the police got intelligence about an apparent infiltration of prohibited drugs into the district and immediately jumped into action.
"We successfully conducted the raids and seized the drugs. The exercise will hopefully continue until we ensure that our community is drug free. Ten suspects were also arrested in possession of cannabis. The matter will definitely be charged to court after our preliminary investigations," he said.
Kamara said the exhibits, especially the white powder substance, have been sent to Freetown for forensic examinations.
In another development, police in Kailahun Friday raided a marijuana farm about four kilometres away from Kailahun town.
Police source stated that the owner of the farm one Jusu Vandi has gone into hiding, but that a huge quantity of the said drug is now with the police.
