Sierra Leone: 'Alie Commoner' Not Leone Stars Coordinator -SLFA VP

Freetown — Widespread report that Vice President II of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Alie 'Commoner' Kargbo has been appointed as coordinator of Leone Stars is not true, says his first Vice President, Joseph S. Kelfila.

Speaking to Concord Sports yesterday, Kelfila said the appointment of Leone Stars coordinator is discretional to SLFA so the information going around is false.

"The news is false. Commoner is Vice President II so he cannot be appointed as Leone Stars coordinator," he said adding that the SLFA is more concerned about raising funds for Leone Stars and not for a coordinator.

"In modern day football, the head coach can execute the work of a coordinator," Kelfila said.

However, as the position is still vacant and the national team cash-trapped, some players and football fans have been calling on SLFA to appoint the current East End Lions team manager, Mohamed Gento as the national team coordinator.

According to Alpha Sesay, a fan who watched Leone Stars training yesterday at the national stadium, Gento is the right man for the job.

"Consider the role Gento and others played during the national team's away match against Equatorial Guinea. These are the people who can sacrifice to see that the national team succeeds," Sesay said.

Also, few of the players who spoke to Concord Sports yesterday believe Gento can improve the present state of the team.

Sources close to the national team claimed that though Gento has not been given any official appointment, he has been working on soliciting funds for the national team and has helped provide assistance for the team's training.

SLFA executive will meet today to take a final decision on the issue which has attracted much media interest.
