Ghana: Country Signs Final Postal Union Act

20 August 2008

Ghana has signed the final Universal Postal Union Act (UPU) together with other members of the Union at the just-ended 24th UPU Congress in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the congress, amendments were made to the Constitution, Convention, Rules and Procedures and other legal instruments of the Union.

The amendments were in line with reforms taking place in the postal industry, so as to get member countries to be abreast with the global changes the industry was facing.

His Excellency, Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, Ghana's Ambassador to Switzerland, Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations office, and other International Organisations in Geneva and Vienna, signed the final Act on behalf of Ghana.

Those present at the signing were the Chairman of the Postal and Courier Regulatory Commission of Ghana, Mr. Isaac Adu-Boahene, Mr. Kofi Dua-Adonteng, Managing Director of Ghana Post, Mrs. Jane Asamoah Broni, Mrs. Lydia Sekyere and Isaac K. Bonful.

Ghana was also elected vice Chairman in Charge of Legal Affairs of the Telematics Cooperative Management Board of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) of the Congress of the Union in Geneva, Switzerland. It will hold the position for the next four years, until the next Congress of the Union in 2012.
