Uganda: Rotarians Adopt Bugiri Village

Kampala — ADOPT a Village - Bugiri is a $33,201 (sh52.8m) project implemented at Bugiri in Bukasa and Kiwuule local councils in Katabi sub-county, Wakiso district.

"Adopt a Village" aims at lifting communities out of poverty.

The project was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kiwatule and the rotary clubs of Petaluma of California, US and the Rotary International.

The project, that is focused on health, sanitation and education, will benefit over 3,500 people.

The village has so far received a 10,000 litre tank at Bugiri Public Primary School, shelves, class desks and teachers' guide books.

The councils also received 1,300 insecticide-treated mosquito nets for children and pregnant mothers.

The president of the Rotary Club of Kiwatule, Cathy Nassali, while handing over the equipment said: "The challenge is in the hands of the community to ensure that what has been put in place is well-maintained."

Joseph Balikudde, the Busiro South MP, commended the club for their help and appealed to other institutions to emulate them."We shall begin where the Rotarians have left," he said.
