Angola: Economics Newspaper a Landmark - Official

20 August 2008

Luanda — Tuesday-launched economics (Economia e Financas) weekly published under Edições Novembro-EP, is as a landmark in the history to the Angolan press that emerged in the last quarter of the 19th century.

This was said by the director general of the publishing house, Edições Novembro-EP, José Ribeiro.

Speaking at the ceremony of launch of the newspaper, José Ribeiro supported his assertion saying it is the first Angolan newspaper capable of exclusively offering information in the economic and financial areas of the country.

He said that within the context of national reconstruction, the institution he leads has since early been playing a relevant part in the Angolan journalism, which increases its and its staff responsibility.

According to him, his institution is concerned about meeting the needs imposed by the peace, taking into account the extraordinary performance of the national economy.

To him, the weekly is expected to be at the heights of the challenges raised to the social communication.

José Ribeiro hinted that the improvements to the design and contents of the Edições Novembro-EP's publications are part of the Social Communication Ministry strategy.

He mentioned that in 2007, in addition to other elements, changes were made to the country's only daily paper in order to adjust it to the modern standards of the world journalism.

In his turn, the director of the just-launched newspaper, Agostinho Chitata, appealed to the sources to cooperate with the media organs.
