Lagos — THE Lagos State Police Command yesterday disclosed that the couple who claimed to have witnessed the killing of the late Paul Abayomi Ogundeji last Sunday by fleeing armed robbers at Dopemu area of Lagos, will address anxious journalists at the state command in Ikeja today.
The Command's resolve to make the couple available to the press, followed controversy that greeted the killing of the member of This Day Newspaper Editorial Board. Already, there are insinuations that the late Ogundeji was allegedly shot by some policemen that fateful night.
But reacting to the allegation the command boss, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo said the allegation was false. The state police boss who said he was pained by the death of Mr. Ogundeji said it was not enough for people to peddle rumour about his death.
Said he: "Honestly, I am pained by the death of that gentlemen but what I do not understand is that people are saying that the police killed him; for what? Why would the police kill him? Because of these, I have compelled the man against his wish to speak with people tomorrow (today) and I am sure that would put paid to the whole controversy."
Akpoyibo who did not hide his shock and discontentment over the allegation said investigation into the murder was still on-going and that the command would brief the public on the progress as time went on.
