South Africa: Snuki Returns to Office

An independent inquiry, based on the recommendation of the CCMA, has exonerated suspended SABC group executive news and current affairs Snuki Zikalala on charges of misconduct.

He has thus resumed his duties with immediate effect, according to a statement from the SABC yesterday, Wednesday, 20 August 2008.

"We respect the independent inquiry process on this matter and welcome Dr Zikalala back at work and hope all concerned will allow him to perform his duties without hindrance," said Kanyi Mkonza, chairperson of the SABC board.

On the recommendation of the CCMA, the board appointed an independent inquiry headed by senior counsel advocate Modise Khoza, which inquiry found that Zikalala "has not breached any of his contractual obligations". In this matter, the SABC was represented by Maserumule Inc Attorneys, while Zikalala was represented by Cheadle Thompson & Haysom Inc.

The SABC board met on Tuesday 19 August to consider the report and against this background the board resolved that Zikalala must resume his duties as group executive news and current affairs with immediate effect.
