Mogadishu — Up to 10 people have been killed while more than others were injured in a heavy mortar shelling on the main Bakara market on Thursday eyewitnesses said.

Several business sites have been hit into mortars by the government troops at the presidential palace.

" seven people died at a masque called " Abuhureyra" in the main Bakara market After two mortars landed on it as the people were having ablution for noon prayer" eyewitness Hassan Muse told Shabelle.

Heavy fighting is still raging around the market where armed government troops and armed islamist fighting are battling.

No further details on these incidents are available.
