Namibia: New Book Seeks to Revive Prayer, Fasting

Wndhoek — Bishop Elizabeth Arowolo has authored a book that aims at reviving intercessory prayers of Christians.

The book, "Calling for Effective and Fervent End Time Intercessors - Turning situations around through fasting and prayer", says prayer, though the most powerful weapon available to Christians, has been underutilised because of ignorance.

Arowolo draws on the experience of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the recent devastating floods in northern Namibia to affirm the role the Church can play in cases of such disasters.

The 104-page book contains information that Arowolo says is a call to people to return to the altar of prayer and fasting for them to shape their destiny as well as that of their children and the world.

The book contains 11 chapters on the Lord's covenant protection, the vision and weapon of fasting and prayer and its benefits as a lifestyle, Biblical examples of dramatic results of fasting and prayer as well as chapters on Christians as God's watchmen and women.

Speaking at the launch of her book, Arowolo said Christians today can still and should campaign against disasters.

She said the recent devastating floods in the north made many people wonder where God was in all these and what His plan for the earth was. It also brought out the question of the role of the Body of Christ in all these events.

"We can still do something. We can stop the devil from taking advantage of the situation and make people think these are the end times," she said.

With challenges such as prostitution and all forms of addiction, Arowolo said the Church today should wake up and pray.

"God is looking for effective and zealous intercessors that know that He wants them to pray so that their families, communities, nations and the world at large can be blessed through their outcry to God," she added.

For Christians that do not understand God's purpose in their lives, Arowolo urged them to study the Bible and catch the vision and mind of God about fasting, prayers, intercession and lost souls.

Launching the book last Friday, Coordinator for Intercessors United Reverend Dr Goody Nwagboso said: "Everyone is a product of intercession and everyone must go back to being an intercessor."

"Whatever your calling, you are called to be a prayer warrior," said Nwagboso, adding that intercession brought relief to the oppressed. He said for any nation to be turned around, an intercession was the starting point.

"The moment we start interceding, God will begin to move people. God is calling for effectiveness in intercession," he said.

Bishop Arowolo is the founder and overseer of Christ's Love Ministries International (CLM). CLM started in Nigeria and has spread to other African countries including Namibia, Europe and the United States of America.
