The Director of Sports, Dr. Sadiu B. Mansaray has been accused of scattering the Sierra Leone Association of Martial Arts (SLAMA) following his order to separate the different sports that formed SLAMA.
But in his reaction, Dr. Mansaray told Concord Sports laughingly that he did not scatter the group but wanted every discipline to have its own identity instead of being under a single body.
"They are lying. How can I disrupt SLAMA? It is the international federation who wants every discipline to get an identity," Dr. Mansaray said.
Taekwando, judo, wrestling, karate, kickboxing and the non-existing fencing are the sports that formed the single body called SLAMA.
Dr. Mansaray ordered various sports under the amalgamation to conduct separate elections for their executive members.
Though his deputy, Hasten-Spane failed to coordinate the elections on the pretext that there was no constitutional right to do so, the elections did go ahead and they sparked lots of differences which have so far created disunity amongst the various sports disciplines.
However, some members of the karate and wrestling associations have condemned the director's move saying it was wrong.
They even added that the sports director is aware of an existing wrestling executive which has already been recognized by the International Wrestling Federation so there is no need for the constitution of another executive.
