Angola: Micro Credit Receivers Happy With Government Initiative

21 August 2008

Luanda — At least 50 emerging entrepreneurs of Kilamba Kiaxi District, in Luanda City, who have received micro credit, expressed their satisfaction last Wednesday at the governmental Initiative, which granted them a loan for them to develop small businesses.

This initiative is a partnership between the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment and Social Security (MAPESS) and the Angolan Bank of Commerce and Industry (BCI), through which each person received 37, 000 kwanzas (nearly USD 500)

Eva Titã Mendes de Carvalho, who sells beverages in retail, praised the government's initiative, saying that this amount will increase her business volume.

After praising the authorities, Mendonça Bravo, who owns a snack-bar in Golfe neighbourhood, appealed to other beneficiaries to remember to refund the loan, "so they can receive a higher amount in the future and make the enterprise grow".

To António Finda, who is a carpenter, this loaned money will allow him to buy the needed row material and also increase the number of employees.

The event was attended by the local administrator, José Correia and it was presided over by MAPESS Luanda provincial director, Venceslau de Matos.

The micro credit programme dubbed "Amigo"(Friend) was launched last Monday in Cazenga District, in Luanda.

Last Tuesday 50 people benefited from the programme in Rangel District and in the next days it will cover other localities of the country.
