Uganda: Schools Sprite Basketball Gets Timely Sh80 Million Boost

Kampala — CENTURY Bottling Company has boosted the Schools Sprite Basketball Cup with a sh79.3m sponsorship package.

The package under the flagship Sprite brand was unveiled by Century Bottling demand creation manager Kennedy Mutenyo at Namanve yesterday.

The package went up by sh20 from last year's package of sh59m because of the rising inflation, Mutenyo explained.

The invitational tournament that gets underway this weekend at Kigezi High School in Kabale will involve 20 teams.

The funding will cover feeding, uniforms and equipment for all participanting teams.

"Unlike the previous events, we are contribution a minimum of sh0.1m towards transport costs for all teams," Mutenyo added.

Makerere College Scxhool are the boys' reigning champions while Eagles Nest hold the girls' crown.

Basketball is the last event bankrolled by the company on the schools calendar.

Under their Coca-Cola brand, the company sponsors COPA Coca-Cola soccer cup, Coca-Cola U-14, the Schools Cricket Week and rugby.

Other teams that have confirmed entry in the annual event include Kitunga High, Saku SS, Kololo SS, Bugema Adventist and Budo SS.

Others include Ntare School, St. Joseph Vocational School, St. Kalemba and St. Michael Sombe.
