Angola: Maternity Attends Over 3,000 Pregnant Women

21 August 2008

Luena — The infant-maternal centre of the maternity of eastern Moxico province attended about 3,680 pregnant women in the first half of this year, ANGOP learnt on Thursday from the head of nursing, Henda Doroteia.

According to the official, in this period the patients showed the principal symptoms, threats of abortions, premature births and malaria.

The centre attends daily 400 pregnant women, a number that she considers high, taking into account the physical space of the building and the number of nurses placed in hospital.

In 2007, the maternity assisted more than 20,000 women and 21,228 babes in consultations of paediatric (weight and vaccines).
