Sierra Leone: HTC Curriculum Reviewed At PLTC

Port Loko — A one week workshop on the Higher Teachers Certificate (HTC) curriculum review Monday started at the Port Loko teachers college.

The Review Team is comprised of 63 participants, 10 national resource persons and 3 curriculum consultants.

The workshop is funded by the international rescue committee.

Speaking at the opening session, principal of the Port loko teachers college I.W.S Bangura recalled that the idea of reviewing the HTC curriculum emanated from a meeting on March 8 this year of major stakeholders with representative from the tertiary education institution and the Sierra Leone Teachers Union.

He said the curriculum should be reviewed in order to reflect a global trend.

The curriculum development coordinator Gabriel Jonnie said the purpose was to elevate the standard of the curriculum to the national education policy.

He said they are teaming up with international experts in order to take cognizance of some of the salient features that aims at developing the teachers for the well being of the students thereby creating a conducive and friendly teacher/learning environment.

Jonnie said they are intending to produce a curriculum that takes into considerations the gender dynamics such as affording equal chances to both boys and girls.
