Sierra Leone: Kenema District Council Committee Formed

Kenema — Local councillors in the Kenema district Wednesday formed different council committees during their first council meeting held at the council hall in Kenema.

Elected chairman Patrick Samu said the meeting was very important since councillors were elected to various committees.

Samu described the council as the highest political unit in the district and called on the councillors to put aside personal gains and work for their respective communities that they represent in council.

"Today we are going to conduct an election for the position of deputy chairman, and to various committees. Every councillor has the right to contest so that we will enhance fair play in the process," he said.

Samu extended appreciation to the National Electoral Commission for conducting a free and fair election.

Councillor Luseni Sheriff was elected deputy chairman, Fatmata Dassama of ward 56 Dama chiefdom, chairperson Health committee, Momoh Massaquoi ward 15, wandor chiefdom chairman agricultural committee.

Other councillors elected on to committees were councillor Bockarie Lansana, development and planning committee, Eric Mohai establishment committee and Memunatu Keimokai and Mariatu Kamara, chairpersons social welfare gender and children committees respectively.
