22 August 2008

The Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer- Buckle has added his voice to several eminent Ghanaians for the country to ensure a peaceful, united country before and after the December polls.

He explained that the successes of the four previous major elections the country has undergone should guide the citizens to jealously guard against committing any act of violence during the election.

The Archbishop said the "2008 election is not a do or die affair" as some politicians are purporting; and called on Ghanaians to rebuke anyone who claims violence will mare the 2008 elections.

Stressing on the point that "violence will not and never happen", he called on the citizenry to be vigilant of politicians who incite violence among people.

He cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of the politicians who incite violence, adding thatthey would be the first people toleave the country, shouldconflict breakout; leaving the masses to suffer.

In order to maintain the peace the country has enjoyed, Most Rev. Palmer Buckleadvised Ghanaians to resort to dialogue to address issues and allow the rule of law to prevail at all times.

The revered minister who shepherds the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra appealed to the citizenry, especially Christians who constitute majority of the population to be messengers, architects, builders, restorers and crusaders of peace. He decried the attitude of Catholics who act contrary to the very virtues they profess, and challenged them to live up to expectation.

Speaking under the theme: that all may be one, at the climax of the silver jubilee celebration of the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church(OLA) at New-Achimota, the Archbishop said Catholics must acknowledge there are differences among every people and noted that people are divided along gender, ethnic, status, and on other lines, but these should not cause us to hate to the point of wanting to kill each other

He said "God in his own wisdom created the people of the different ethnic groups" and asked the community to be united.
