Liberia: UL Faculty Support Staff Threaten

The University of Liberia Faculty and Staff Associations have threatened a non- cooperative attitude in the execution of all conventional activities of the University of Liberia requiring their input if certain issues concerning their welfare are not met.

The faculty and staff of the university in a prepared statement issued yesterday under the signature of the president of the faculty association, Mr. Clifford Young and the acting president of the University of Liberia Staff, Mr. Joseph Y. Willicor, said they have resolved that the UL administration should immediately implement the 30% upward adjustment in salary as of July 1st, 2008.

ULFA and ULSSA said the US$800,000.00 allotted by the Legislature for special allowances be strictly used for the purpose intended, while the July and August 2008 salaries for full-time faculty and staff as well as the June and July 2008 salaries for part-time faculty be paid immediately.

The two groups also want the UL administration to pay her employees on or before the 28th of every month, and pay part-time faculty members of the university US$100.00 monthly per course as of July 1st, 2008.

According to their statement, the ULFA and ULSSA added that the UL administration should convene a meeting of its constituent colleges and programs for the recasting of its 2008/2009 fiscal budget and ensure that funds needed for conducting practicum for both the Agriculture and Science Colleges be immediately released and immediately reinstate two employees who were downsized.
