Uganda: Drug Dealers Charged

22 August 2008

Kampala — TWO men, a Ugandan and a Korean, have been charged with possession of narcotic drugs (Helium) in Buganda Road Court. Court heard that Phillip Mawanda 29, of Luwafu, Makindye Division and Been Lee, 39, were nabbed with the drugs on May 21.

Following a tip, CID detective, Constable Evanis Musiime trailed the duo and arrested them at Hotel Africana.

The drugs were found in Mawanda's trouser pockets and more in a white Mercedes Benz number UAH 912R. Mawanda has allegedly been communicating with Lee since February 2008 concerning the trafficking of the drugs to Rwanda where another group was supposed to take over.

Before the Grade 1 Magistrate at Buganda Road Court yesterday, Francis Dawa Matenga presented two different passports. One of the passports number JR38266 had also been used in Japan, China and Rwanda. Both men were released on court bail and will re-appear in court on September 15.
