Nigeria: Onigbinde Hails Olympic Team

23 August 2008

Adegboye Onigbinde has commended the performance of the Dream Team IV that fetched Nigeria a silver medal at the Olympic Games.

Nigeria lost 1-0 to Argentina through an Angel Di Maria goal but the former Super Eagles coach says the team did not perform badly.

Onigbinde told KickOffNigeria.com shortly after the match the Nigerian team did very well to even play in the final of the Olympic Games.

"We all know the team's unimpressive build up and the problems they faced before now so we should commend them for even getting to the final.

"We should not fail to note the fact that there were major lapses or problems in the team's attack and defense in the final match against Argentina but that is what football is all about.

"It is now left for the people in the football authority to utilize the gains of this competition as well as try to correct the mistakes and problems encountered in order to improve on football in the country," the FIFA/CAF Instructor told KickOffNigeria.com.

He, also pointed out that, "Definitely, the whole world will be looking at the future of Nigerian football as a result of the good performances of the boys. But it depends on how best we utilize the merits and good side of these performances."
