Kampala — THE Baganda are meeting in New Jersey, US next week to discuss Buganda's future. The 4th Baganda International Event referred to as "Ttabamiruka" will take place starting next Friday (Aug 29) to September 1.
The conference whose theme is "Buganda; my past, my present, my future" has been sponsored by Ggwangamujje New York (NY) and New Jersey (NJ).
The former Katikkiro of Buganda, Dan Muliika, Buganda's Minister for Research, Daudi Mpanga, MPs Beti Kamya (Rubaga North) and Hussein Kyanjo (Makindye West) and the chairperson of Buganda Kingdom Central Civic Education Committee, Betty Nambooze will speak at tyhe conference.
The purpose of the conference is to consolidating achievements of the previous meeting and confronting Buganda's escalating challenges, the website states.
The annual event, is expected to attract up to 500 people from various parts of the world.
Ggwangamujje NY/NJ has set up a medical fund to assist Nambooze meet payment of her medical bills. Nambooze and Mengo ministers, Charles Peter Mayiga and Merdard Lubega Seggona, were arrested last month. Nambooze and Lubega were charged for sedition.
Prior to this meeting, a two-day international meeting on federo was due to take place at the London School of Economics starting August 23.
The conference, whose purpose is to promote federalism, was organised by Ugandans living in London, sources said.
